TRACKS AND LEVELS
Level 1
You're new to Balboa. Maybe you've had some classes before, but you still lose count sometimes, and have to think to execute any moves other than the basic. This track will cover core vocabulary and foundational techniques. You'll be taught how to lead/follow the Pure Bal Basic, come around, throw-outs, lollies, out-and-ins, ad-lib steps, and more. By the end of the weekend you'll be a more proficient dancer. Level 2 You've been dancing Balboa for a while. You know the basic patterns such as the throw out, Pure Bal Basic, come around, lollies, ad-lib steps, out-and-ins, and more. You can do these moves easily but you want to improve your technique, learn new and exciting moves, and be more musical when you dance. This track will teach valuable methods to improve your technique and connection. It will add to your repertoire, develop your musicality, and smooth out your rough edges, thus taking your dancing to that next level! Level 3 You've placed in advanced tracks at other Balboa events, or you've competed and placed in Balboa competitions. You can do the basic patterns in your sleep and you have a library of fun and fancy moves and variations. Syncopations and fancy footwork come naturally to you. Still, you're sure there are more ways to refine your dancing and make it more exciting! In this track you will be challenged with advanced movements, variations, and syncopation. It will add finesse and flair to your Balboa, so get ready for a challenge! Beginning Balboa for Advanced Non-Balboa Dancers Side Track - SATURDAY ONLY You're an experienced dancer in something other than Balboa. You know how to move and how to connect with a partner in a social dance. BUT, you're new to Balboa, and you think that an introductory class would be too slow for you. Saturday's classes will be a fast-paced introduction to the Balboa basic and standard patterns such as the come-around, throw-outs, lollies, out-and-ins, ad-lib steps, and more. The classes will focus on how to transition between these moves, how to make your dancing fit the music, and how to make your dancing smooth and sweet! By the end of the day you should be a proficient "intermediate" Balboa dancer. Vintage Styling - SUNDAY ONLY Have you ever heard of the Dean Collins Shim Sham? Smooth-style Lindy? Al and Leon? Vintage Solo Jazz? Sunday's side track will teach you exciting moves and styles that are applicable to all types of swing dancing, beyond just Balboa. |
